The aluminium strip is the part of the LED strip installation that is often hidden in indirect lighting installations. However, the profile has a major impact on the direction of light, the heat dissipation away from the LED strip and the durability of the LED strip. When planning a renovation and a new home, it is also good to consider the new possibilities of LED lighting and lighting upgrades. With Led strip you can create long-lasting lighting that can be used to highlight surfaces such as walls or ceilings. The Led strip provides a pleasantly even light surface.

In this article, we will present LED strip lighting in homes, specifically in terms of choosing an aluminium strip or profile.

Led strip on the ceiling – aluminium strip on a shorted ceiling or ceiling drop

The short ceiling structures and drop-down ceilings are suitable for many rooms, such as hallways, living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms. The aluminium trim, or profile, for these roofline applications is a direct downward illuminated surface mounted trim for a single LED strip, measuring 2500x16x18mm for the white surface mounted aluminium trim and 22mm wide including fixings. In the lower, so-called. in slim profile (white, brushed aluminium and black) one rail measures 2500x8x18mm, the width including fasteners is the same 22mm.

In terms of LED illumination, the recess in the ceiling should be quite shallow, about 5 cm. Similarly, five centimetres in width is a good measurement. A gap that is too deep or narrow will make installation more difficult and the light will be trapped in the recess unnecessarily and will not illuminate the room as well. On the other hand, too shallow a gap will make the LEDs visible on closer inspection. The power of the LED strip and the colour of the light are chosen in addition to the profile to ensure that the light is suitable for the space.

The recessed drop in the ceiling provides an excellent opportunity for a flat LED track lighting. A more special effect is achieved by leaving a floor light underneath, with an LED rail attached to the bottom.

Light shelf in the ceiling – LED strip lighting provides even illumination and enhances the sense of space

A narrow or wider strip recessed in the ceiling provides good targeted lighting. The outer dimensions of a single strip width flush profile are 2500x8x25mm. Waterproof flush profile IP65 suitable for wet areas, dimensions 2500x8x28mm. The wider flush mount profile for double strip installations requires a deeper flush mount space, 2500x44x35, and with spring mounts the installation depth is 58mm. The profile also looks good in rim-to-rim.

The wider flush-mounted profile can accommodate two LED strips in parallel.

In the top profile, the LED strip looks spotless even when dimmed, because the diffuser smoothes the light.

Different sizes and shapes of aluminium profiles are available to suit different installation locations. The plastic cover, or diffuser, has many functions: it softens the light, smoothes the boundary between light and shadow on the illuminated surface, and protects the LED strip from dust, bumps and splashes.

A narrow LED track embedded in the ceiling provides atmospheric lighting for the tiling and indirect light for the entire wall.

Down counters and enclosures, where a shelf is left for the LED, should be lit with a 45 degree angle profile. Forward and upward lighting at a 45-degree angle is particularly effective for lighting reflected through the roof. The dimensions of the corner strip are 2500x19x19 mm, the bracket adds about 2 mm more width to the strip.

The width of the shelf should be chosen so that the LED strip is not directly visible from the other end of the room. A shelf of around 10 cm depth is suitable on average. The height of the shelf/enclosure is usually determined by e.g. based on the size of the air duct. The height of the shelf affects how far along the ceiling the LED list will illuminate. The higher the shelf, the greater the angle at which the light can open. For a space that needs more light, a larger corner profile 2500x30x30mm can be chosen, allowing 1-3 LED strips to be installed on three different internal surfaces.

The wide reward built from the descents is a great power tool. Aluminium strips and LED strips accentuate the structure.

The range also includes a wide variety of wall-mounted profiles, allowing you to set the height from the ceiling. One-way and two-way illuminated decorative strip for the wall, available in either black or brushed aluminium. You can also paint the Led list yourself, as the surface is anonised.

The kitchen has a lot of LED-profile illuminated areas

In the kitchen, aluminium trim can be used in many ways. Many illuminate the space above the cabinets, as well as the working space under the cabinets. The LED strip attached to the aluminium strip provides a uniform light over the entire length of the desk, making it easier to work and keep it clean. Especially in open-plan kitchens, lighting from below the table level of the island and mood lighting installed at floor level at plinth level will make the kitchen cosy even in the evening.
A 45-degree orientation on top of a cabinet should be oriented so that it illuminates the centre of the room. The positioning of the worktop light at the base of the cabinet can be used to accommodate both the front and rear edges of the cabinet when using a 45 degree aluminium strip. For the centre of the cabinet, either a high or low surface profile, a profile for two strips, or a flush profile if the aluminium strip is to be completely flush with the bottom surface of the cabinet are suitable.

Led lighting for ceiling, eaves, balustrade, wall – profile for versatile lighting

Led ribbon also works well outdoors, as long as you take good care of moisture protection. The plastic cover of the list protects the top from dripping water, making it a kind of aluminium profile enclosure. LED strip installations that are more exposed to the elements should be implemented with a waterproof LED profile, i.e. with a moisture rating of IP65. In addition, all penetrations must be sealed. The Led profile is suitable for both eaves and handrails on external stairs. In addition, customized wall lighting can be realized with a recessed profile that illuminates in one direction. Profile dimensions are 78/68x35x2500mm

Led-list for the ceiling – design and installation tips

The lengths of the aluminium strips are taken into account in the design of the LED strip lighting. In the LedStore range, almost all profiles have a length of 2500mm, i.e. 2.5 metres. A roof rack of this length will still fit in a car, but they can also be cut to size. Aluminium is soft, so it can be broken at home with a hacksaw or a table saw.

If more than 2.5 metres of aluminium moulding is required, the profiles are simply installed one behind the other, preferably with the “factory straight” ends facing each other. A single fastener can be aligned with the seam, and the seam of the plastic cover, or diffuser, should be aligned at a different point from the profile seam, if possible. For example, a 3.5 m long aluminium strip would be installed with 2.5 m and 1 m profiles in a row. The decks, on the other hand, are placed first with the shorter 1 m and then with the 2.5 m.

The easiest way to make the corners of the profiles is to leave the profile a few centimetres shorter in both directions and connect the wires of the LED strip together with a lever connector. If necessary, a two-wire cable is soldered to the ends of the LED strip. If the LED strips are taken all the way to the corners, the corners are illuminated more brightly because the light patterns are doubled for the distance.
