The solutions designed by LedStore were convincing

In Talo Kotiranta, the initial discussions on lighting took place at LedStore, where the overall lighting concept was quickly outlined. The design was also done by another professional, but his solution would have used a loose-bolt frame, while LedStore’s design has the spot frame and the light source with a daisy-chain transformer in one easy-to-install package. The other luminaires suggested by another designer didn’t feel right either, so we marched back with the base and let LedStore do the design. The designer for Kotiranta was Janne from LedStore.

Lighting needs for a new house

Kotiranta describes the house like this: “Our home is bright because it has large windows facing east, south and west. Our house is an Aurora-type house from Kannusthäuser, which came to us ready-made from the outside. Inside, we built the house entirely ourselves, so we chose and tendered for most of what we needed, including the lighting. We wanted to have enough light in the dark with LEDs. LedStore’s 9W spots and 12W plafond, or round panel lights, have been very successful in achieving this”.

Kotiranta was satisfied with the plan he received: “The design had the right light output for our house and the positions were well defined to ensure that the lighting was even. In the bedrooms, for example, the lights were well placed so that they did not shine directly into the eyes from the bed. In the upstairs lobby, the lights were cleverly designed in two groups. We wanted a fresh and light look, where the lighting does not dominate but blends in with the ceiling,” says Heikki Kotiranta.

In bedrooms, the 12W Plafond UPPO 160 is positioned evenly along the edges of the room, so they don’t glare when viewed directly from bed.
In a walk-in wardrobe, it is important to have enough even light. Two pairs of UPPO Plafondi 160 solved the need nicely.
In the upstairs lobby, 9W directional spots, 033W Round, arranged in two groups, give the space a spacious feel and good general lighting.

In addition, the bathroom and toilet have lighted mirrors with fume extraction. “This feature is really handy if you need to make the mirror clear, for example when shaving after a sauna,” he says.

The bathroom has beautifully colour-coordinated ceiling lights and a mirror light with a defrost function.
Bathroom lighting is even and adequate even when more light is needed. Dimmability is an important feature to give a softer atmosphere to a space.
The defogging function of LedStore’s light mirrors is ideal for example in steamy bathrooms. The surface of the mirror becomes clearer, making it easier to shave, for example.
LedStore’s MOON 600 circular spotlight was chosen for the smaller toilet space, in addition to the motion-activated ceiling spotlights.

Lots of lighting control options, a simplified solution in Kotiranta

Although there is a lot of talk about smart homes these days, Kotiranta did not want any smart lighting, wireless remote controls or tablet controls. Scheider Exxact wall buttons with dimmer were good enough for them. The colour of the buttons was chosen to match the stylish silver-coloured rotary knob switches and on/off buttons with glass frames. The lighting plan was created in good interaction with the electrical plan, and although there were several changes to the electrical plan, from Kotiranta’s point of view, all the LedStore lamp-related issues were completed as planned: “The products were in order and worked as they should,” he sums up.

The LedStore luminaires dim and function perfectly with, for example, the Schneider Exxact dimmers and control switches selected for the House of Home.

Big plus for LedStore’s shop and service

The LedStore store is conveniently located on Kotiranta’s commute in Koivuhaa, Vantaa, so with the construction project underway, he visited the store a few times: ‘I give a big plus for being able to deal directly with the people who know their lights, and who have designed our lighting. Our lamps could be picked up directly from the store without long ordering and waiting times. I also got to try out the designs before we took the whole lot, so we could make sure the lamps were a good fit. There was an info error on the size of the mounting hole for the plafond. When we came to choose the outdoor lights, I mentioned it and it was handled very well and the customer service was spot on”.

Kotiranta, who has followed the forums a lot, also thought for a moment that he would order a large number of lights from abroad himself, but had second thoughts: ‘I’ve noticed that people are thinking a lot about ordering directly from China for cheap. The biggest problem I see is that when you buy from abroad, the responsibility for the product becomes entirely yours. You are the importer and any problems that arise have to be dealt with by yourself. You can get into a real mess with quality when products look so similar online”. He is happy to deal directly with professionals who take responsibility for the products and service: ‘I would never have thought that I could have done so well with lighting only online’.

The kitchen has lots of windows, but light is needed for much of the year when there is not enough sunlight. Round 033W spots 9w, bring a much needed amount of even and good quality light to the kitchen.
Beautifully blended into the ceiling, the 9W spots provide the right amount of even general lighting downstairs when evenly spaced throughout the space.
The general lighting is provided by 9w spotlights, which bring beautiful light to the hallways and lobbies, for example.
